NetPRT Services FAQs.

Q. Do I need to have consultants help me move my website to NetPRT?

A. Not normally. Most websites are content based websites. As a result, all that is needed is to configure and activate the account, then move your files to your account and be ready to go.

Where you will likely need some consulting help is if you are moving a website that has some form of application software, especially if you are moving from Microsoft based hosting. Microsoft based applications do not normally transfer to other operating systems if they use Microsoft based technologies, such as Active Server Pages or SQL Server. In those situations, your web applications will need to be rewritten or replaced. However, if the applications use scripting technologies such as PHP, and use MySQL as the database, then it's likely that your website can be moved without too much difficulty. Again, alot depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish. NetPRT and Powder River Technologies, Inc. can take on an advisory consulting role to help you determine the best way to proceed, or we can contract with you to replace applications as needed.

Q. Why do you charge a consulting fee to help a person with content questions?

A. Our experience, both with our own websites and with others we have worked on, is that often problems take a while to diagnose, and sometimes more to solve. Unfortunately, that takes time, which means that it needs to be paid for some how. We can work out a support services contract with you where you can pay for a certain number of hours per month for website design, development, content or application support.

Q. Suppose I have a problem with a third party application that I am running on your server. Can you provide a service or support contract for the application?

A. Generally, no. Most applications are copyright protected, and source code is usually not provided. Therefore, changing, modifying or supporting a software application is best done by the people who provided the solution.
