NetPRT offers differing levels of support, depending on your hosting plan,
and whether you wish to enter into a separate support agreement with us.
Our standard support is essentially operational support, which consists
of ensuring that the various servers are up and running and Internet accessible,
that daily backups happen, that security checks happen, and that users
are able to manage their accounts and access email properly. If you have
problems in managing your accounts or accessing your email, then make sure
that you contact us immediately. There are some times when Internet
congestion can make the server seem like it is not available, so please try
more than once before contacting us. We have monitoring software in place
which will alert us if our servers are not available, and we will do our best
to make sure that we clear those kinds of problems up quickly.
While we do make backups, it does take some time to restore files or
user spaces, so requests for a restoration from a backup takes some
time. We reserve the right to charge for regular or frequent requests
to restore directories. However, no charge policy is in place at the moment,
and you will be notified if or when a support policy for restoring from
backups becomes necessary.
Website support
As part of our operational support, we monitor various software servers and
services on our hardware servers. This operational monitoring includes monitoring
the various webservers that are in use, supporting not only our own website
but the sites of our users. The website monitoring software is located both
onboard the hardware server being monitored and also offsite. As a
result, we can respond to an outage as soon as we discover the problem.
Operational website support does not extend to supporting website
content. We can offer a separate service contract to assist you with website
authoring, design, and graphics development. Our standard service rates are
available from the Services page.
Online training
You should be able to use your account without any specialized knowledge
of UNIX, regardless of what type of account you have. You can FTP your
files using any commercially available FTP package, and you can access
your email via our Webmail interface.
For those users with some level of familiarity with UNIX, you can access
your account via SSH (Secure SHell), with is covered in the
Hosting FAQs.
For those users who are want to use the shell account to learn about
UNIX and Linux, the man pages are a rich source of information
about the latest version of each command. We highly recommend
that you buy at least one book on UNIX or Linux, as they will be
invaluable to you while learning or using UNIX.
At this point, we do not offer online training or mentoring, but we
plan to eventually make these available. However, we can recommend
several books about UNIX and about HTML authoring, which are listed
in the Support FAQs. If you
really would like to enter into a training contract, we can offer
this as a service in the form of a contract, which runs at the rate
of $50/hr. We highly recommend getting a good starting or good
reference book, or both, on the topic of your choice prior to
starting to learn either topic. If you do enter into a training
contract with us, you will need to acquire books on the subject to
support the lessons.
